TAG Heuer Launches Carrera Astronomer with Redesigned Moon Phase Display Born on the racetrack, the Carrera collection is steeped in a spirit of conquest, always striving to push boundaries. With the new Carrera Astronomer, TAG Heuer extends this pioneering vision into space, creating a lunar complication never before seen in the collection.

This new chapter in astronomical watchmaking harks back to a pivotal moment for the brand. In 1962, astronaut John Glenn wore a modified Heuer 2915A chronograph aboard NASA's Friendship 7 spacecraft, marking the first time a Swiss watch has entered orbit. (To learn how this milestone shaped TAG Heuer's illustrious history, read our special article on the history of TAG Heuer watches.)

That mission connected Heuer precision with exploration beyond Earth, and the Carrera Astronomer builds directly on this remarkable achievement.

The heart of the Carrera Astronomer is driven by Calibre 7, a self-winding mechanical movement beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of 50 hours.

The moon phase display at 6 o'clock breaks free from conventional stylization. A rotating disc displays the seven phases of the moon with scientific precision, flanked by slender arrows indicating the current phase and its position within the 29.5-day cycle.

Every day at 1:00 a.m., the disc advances in sync with the actual movement of the moon, providing a precise and visually captivating interpretation of the moon's journey.

The stainless steel case measures 39 mm in diameter, 12.16 mm in height, and 45.2 mm from lug to lug – proportions that create a balanced and elegant presence on the wrist.

The screw-down crown and caseback ensure water resistance to 100 meters/330 feet, while the domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment ensures clear viewing from all angles.

The caseback itself is adorned with an observatory and a victory wreath, reinforcing the design's celestial inspiration.

The Carrera Astronomer is available in three versions.

The first (reference WBX2110.BA0044), part of the Carrera Perpetual collection, features a silver sun-brushed dial framed by a black flange and a black moon phase disc.

Rhodium-plated applied numerals and faceted hands coated with white Super-LumiNova enhance legibility. The watch is presented on a seven-row stainless steel bracelet with a finely brushed and polished finish, evoking the flowing lines of the 1960s "bead of rice" design.

The second watch (Ref. WBX2112.FC6615), limited to 500 pieces, offers even more striking contrasts. Its silver dial is paired with a dark grey bezel, while the numerals, hands, and moon phase scale are accented with turquoise and filled with Super-LumiNova.

The third watch (Ref. WBX2111.BD0002) features a two-tone design, adding a touch of warmth and sophistication. Its stainless steel case is complemented by an 18K 5N rose gold-plated bezel, numerals, and hands. The silver dial and matching moon phase disc create a harmonious backdrop for these precious details.
